LOWER SCHOOL HOLIDAY COMMUNITY GATHERING

THURSDAY DECEMBER 17TH @ 2:00

The Lower School Community Holiday Gathering will take place in the gymnasium. Families are invited and encouraged to attend. Please plan to pick up your child from the Pre-K classroom following the program. Children should dress in school uniform/dress code attire on Thursday.

PET DONATIONS

Thanks to everyone who was able to donate pet items for the Humane Society. If you would still like to donate, we will collect items through this Thursday.

HAPPY HANUKKAH!

Today, Charlie and his mom talked to the class about the celebration of Hanukkah.

First, she read us a story called "Chanukah Lights Everywhere".

She talked to us about lighting the menorah--one candle for each night of Hanukkah until 8 candles are lit on the last night. The candle in the middle of the menorah is the "helper candle".

We enjoyed eating donuts and potato latkes--2 of the traditional foods eaten during Hanukkah.

Charlie T. and Jake gave us Hanukkah gelt (chocolate coins) and a dreidel.

Miles shared with us a dreidel that he made.

COLOR DAY

At the beginning of Color Day, we took our colored iced cubes out of the freezer and put them into clear plastic cups to observe them melting and mixing. In one cup we put blue and yellow cubes; another cup had red and yellow cubes; another cup had blue and red cubes; and another cup had blue, yellow, and red cubes. Stay tuned to find out what we discovered when our ice cubes melted!

WE WORE A RAINBOW OF COLORS...

Lucas and Robert wore yellow shirts.

Jake, Maeve, and Griffin wore "neutrals"--brown, white, and gray.

Charlie, Taylor, and Reese wore red.

Georgia, Sasha, and Josie wore pink.

Maeve, Miles, Ethan, Emmanuel, and Ian wore green.

Charlie, Oliver, Maren, Claire, Charlie, and Emily wore blue.

Maddie wore blue, too!

A COLORFUL SNACK...

We had a special snack on Color Day--sugar cookies with vanilla frosting. We were able to choose what color we wanted our frosting to be. Mrs. Spolter added food coloring to our frosting.

The blue and yellow cubes melted and mixed to make green water.

ZERO THE HERO DAY

We celebrated our 70th day of school! Miles and Oliver's moms came in and brought lots of materials for us to make snowflakes. The best part it, these snowflakes won't melt! Thank you for a great project!

COLOR EXPERIMENT FOR COLOR DAY

At the end of Thursday morning, we prepared an experiment which we will do on Color Day.

First, Mrs. Spolter filled an ice cube tray with water. She then added food coloring to the water.

Mrs. Spolter will put the ice cube tray in the freezer so the water will freeze to make colored ice cubes. On Color Day, we will put two or three different-colored ice cubes into clear, plastic cups to observe what happens when the ice cubes melt. Stay tuned!

HAPPY HALF-BIRTHDAY, TAYLOR!

Today we celebrated Taylor's half-birthday. His real birthday is in June but we won't be in school to celebrate it which is why we celebrated his half-birthday. Taylor's mom read the story, "The Marshmallow Incident" and then we enjoyed eating vanilla ice cream with colored sprinkles for snack. Happy Half-Birthday, Taylor!
