COMMUNITY HELPER VISIT
Today Robert and Catherine's mom visited to share with us about her job at ODOT. We learned about how ODOT builds roads and also how they clear the snow off of roads during the Winter. She gave us some interesting material in our folders including a coloring book, a map, and transportation signs. Thank you for a great visit!

WEEK OF OCTOBER 19th
Get ready for a busy, fun-filled week in Pre-K "A". A note went home today in your child's blue folder about the following 2 special events:
A LOOK AHEAD:
Wednesday October 21st--Campfire Stories 9:00-9:45
Children should come to school dressed in pajamas! They can put on slippers once they get into the classroom. Children may also bring ONE stuffed animal or special blanket/object they slip with at night. We'll be ready to eat pancakes at 8:30 prepared by our parents. Children do not need to wear dress code on this day. Rather, they should wear clothes appropriate for a hike into the woods and sitting on logs around the campfire. We will depart from the Pre-K classroom at 8:50 to walk out to the campfire. Our second grade buddies will join us for this adventure hosted by the Lower School Librarians.
Friday October 23rd--Pajama Party and Pancakes!
A LOOK AHEAD:
Friday October 30th--Halloween Party @ 10:30
Children should wear dress code on this day and bring their costume to school with them. At 10:15, we will begin changing into costumes. Any parent help with changing into costumes would be greatly appreciated. We will parade through the Lower School.
Thursday November 5th--Community Helper Day
On this day, your child should come dressed to school as a community helper of his/her choosing (i.e. doctor, vet, dentist, nurse, teacher, librarian, police officer, etc.). You don't need to follow school dress code guidelines on this day. PLEASE DO NOT FEEL THAT YOU NEED TO GO OUT AND PURCHASE A COSTUME FOR THIS EVENT! Use resources and materials you have at home as you and your child put together a costume. For example, an adult-sized white shirt could be worn as a "white jacket" for a vet, doctor, nurse, etc. Your child is also encouraged to bring tools or items that his/her particular community helper might use to do his/her job. We do request that no toy weapons of any kind be brought to school (i.e. guns if your child comes dressed as a police officer). We will send home additional information in your child's blue folder within the next week.

TUESDAY 10-13-09
We watched a short video on the Smart Board about the American Flag and what the colors and the symbols on the flag mean. Then, each of us created on our flags which are now on display in our classroom.
Star of the Week
On Tuesday, we learned more about our friend, Jake, including that his favorite color is red; his favorite foods are meatballs and spaghetti and broccoli; and that his favorite animal is a dog.

American Alligator
We learned that the American Alligator likes to eat fish, turtles, and fish. It is a reptile and it lives in wetland areas.

We also learned that one of the largest alligators was almost 20 feet long. The photo below of the 5 children lined up head-to-toe showed us how long 20 feet would be.
Today we celebrated Josie's 5th birthday with her. Josie's mom read the story, "The Runaway Pancake" and then we enjoyed chocolate cupcakes for snack. Happy Birthday, Josie!
We had a community helper visit us today--Charlie T's dad who is a home builder. An interesting fact that we learned today was that every time a builder chops down a tree for its wood, he/she must plant 5 trees. Below are some photos of his visit with us.
