"GENTLE GIANT OCTOPUS"

Today we read the story, "Gentle Giant Octopus". It was a factual story about the life of a Giant Octopus. The children really enjoyed the story. Many of them participated in discussing the story as we read, sharing their knowledge and asking questions.

NUMBER WRITING

To introduce number writing, we decided to use our fingers and shaving cream rather than pencil and paper. Of course, this sensory activity was a huge hit! We are teaching the children short, simple poems/rhymes to guide them in writing each number. Today, we did the numbers zero, one, and two. We will continue to practice writing numbers with shaving cream and other sensory materials (sand) before moving to the pencil and paper.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GRIFFIN!

Today we were finally able to celebrate Griffin's birthday with him. We've had to postpone it twice--once due to a snow day and once due to Griffin being sick. Griffin's mom read the story, "Hedgie" and we enjoyed eating cupcakes for snack.

STAR OF THE WEEK--SASHA

Today we learned more about our friend, Sasha. Thanks for sharing your photos and telling us about your favorite things.

PRE-K "A" UPDATES

Dear Pre-K "A" Parents--

It is so nice to FINALLY be back at school. The snow days have messed up our schedule and routine a little, so we wanted to touch base and let you know what is happening in Pre-K........

SOUND BOX
As we mentioned in an e-mail last week, we are continuing with our study of the letter /L/ sound throughout this week. Children should bring in sound box items for the /L/ sound for one more day (tomorrow--Thursday).

BOOK IN A BAG
Since we didn't return to school until Wednesday this week, we are not doing "Book In A Bag" this week. We will resume with this activity next week.

"THE BEAR CASE"
Due to the number of snow days and trying to complete student assessments for upcoming parent/teacher conferences, we have decided to postpone our class play until after Spring Break. We will continue to rehearse before Spring Break. Any practice with his/her lines that your child can do at home is greatly appreciated.
THE NEW DATE FOR THE PLAY IS THURSDAY APRIL 8TH @ 8:30a.m.

100TH DAY OF SCHOOL!

HIP, HIP, HOORAY! IT'S THE 100TH DAY!
During Calendar, we made 10 groups of 10 straws which turned into 1 group of a hundred!

We made it to 100 with our numbered kids!

Below is the seatwork paper we did today. This is what it looks like before we started.
This is what our paper looks like when it is finished. Look what number it shows!
For snack today, we used the chart below to help us count out 100 items for snack.

Busy Counters!!!

The finished product!

Our banner of the #100!

During Free Choice, we had to look at 3 jars containing different items and determine which one we thought had 100.

Jar #1 had pennies; Jar #2 had unifix cubes; and Jar #3 had Legos.

Charlie and Georgia making their guesses.
In the photos below, we are counting the objects in the different jars.

The jar with Legos had more than 100!
The jar with unifix cubes had 67 total cubes.

We're counting the pennies.....There were 100 pennies in the jar!!!!!

VALENTINE'S DAY PARTY

VALENTINE'S DAY PARTY
Friday February 12, 2010
10:30-11:30

Please have your child bring in one valentine for each of his/her 21 Pre-K classmates. We do ask that your child sign the card with his/her name but DO NOT PUT SPECIFIC CLASSMATE'S NAMES ON THE ENVELOPES. This makes it so much easier for the children to distribute their valentines. Your child should also bring in valentines for his/her second grade buddy(ies). We will have the children decorate special Valentine bags at school for collecting their valentines, so you do not need to have your child make/decorate a box. Parents are welcome to join us for our Valentine's Day celebration!

FREE CHOICE FUN!

Georgia building with the tubes.
Josie creating with the pattern blocks.

Charlie creating with the pattern blocks.

HAPPY HAT DAY!
