COLOR BOOK
Today we will begin sending home our color book from our "Color Day" back in December. Each child will have the opportunity to bring home this class book in a special bag. Please have your child read/share the book with you; sign his/her name on the last page; and return the book in the bag the following school day for another classmate to have a turn. Happy Reading!

NAME WRITING BOOKS
To assist the children with learning to write their first names with the first letter being upper case and the rest of the letters lower case, we introduced name writing practice books today. Each child has his/her own book which is stored in his/her "mailbox". We are asking the children to complete 2 practice pages in their book each week. Once they feel confident with writing their first names, we will move on to working on last names.

COINS FOR HAITI
In class today, we had a discussion about the earthquake in Haiti. We explained what happens during an earthquake and that they rarely happen in Ohio--particularly large, damaging ones. We then discussed ways to help the people in Haiti since they are so far away from us. The children know that we will be collecting coins at school that will eventually be sent to Haiti. (One little boy commented that he will be going on Spring Break to a place close to Haiti and perhaps he could drop off the money to the people when he goes there.) We encouraged the children to "earn" coins by doing jobs/chores around the house. The children are very excited about collecting coins to help the people in Haiti. Thank you for supporting their interest and motivation at home!

"BOOK IN A BAG"
Today the children chose a book to begin our "Book In a Bag" activity. Please be sure to practice reading with your child at least once a day and keep track of how many times your child reads the book to you on the form in his/her bag. As a reminder, your child's bag with his/her book and tally sheet should be returned on Thursday. Your child will have the opportunity to read with a teacher on Thursday or Friday. Next Monday, your child will choose another book to bring home to practice reading. Remember, we want this to be an enjoyable experience for your child. You may assist him/her as much as needed.
